Garlic rust is one of the diseases in garlic, commonly occurring in garlic planting areas, especially in years with low temperatures in early spring, rainy spring, or foggy autumn.Last year, garlic rust broke out in major garlic producing areas such as Shandong and central northern Henan. This year, garlic rust has been found in the Zhongmou area of Henan and is showing a trend of major outbreaks.

Garlic rust has been found in Zhongmu, Henan

Garlic rust pathogens are mainly spread by air currents and are highly infectious, mainly harming leaves and pseudostems. In the early stage of the disease, spindle-shaped chlorotic spots appear on the leaves and pseudostems, and then round or oval, slightly raised summer spores are produced under the epidermis. After the epidermis breaks, orange-yellow powder is scattered, which is the summer spores of the pathogen. The lesions are surrounded by yellow halos, and then the lesions are connected to the whole leaf yellowing, causing the plant to die, greatly reducing the yield and quality of garlic.

Garlic rust usually occurs more seriously during the garlic bulb formation or expansion period from early April to mid-May. Why does garlic rust break out early? There are mainly the following reasons:

1. This spring there was more rain and relatively high temperatures, and the temperature and humidity were suitable for the occurrence of rust pathogens.

2. Rust is an airborne disease with a strong ability to re-infect and a fast transmission speed. A large number of rust summer spores have accumulated in the field. Suitable environmental conditions and a large number of pathogens are the main conditions for the outbreak of rust.

Recommended control agents for garlic rust:

Chemical control is the most effective measure to control garlic rust. SixF Prothioconazole 20% + Tebuconazole 20% SC is recommended for control.

Technology used:

1. Use 15 sets of Prothioconazole 20% + Tebuconazole 20% SC per hectare of land and increase water consumption appropriately.

2. Warm water spray, warm water spray at about 30℃, is helpful to accelerate the rupture of spores and timely contact with the drug.

3. Comprehensive prevention and control. Since rust is an airborne disease, the bacteria can easily spread everywhere through the air. Therefore, once rust is found, prevention and control should be carried out in time. Even if some parts of the plants have not developed the disease, pesticides should be used for prevention and control.

4. Apply the pesticide continuously with an interval of 5-7 days.
